COMPANY HOLDS ANNUAL APPRECIATION BANQUET AND AWARDS PROGRAM

The company held its annual Appreciation banquet and Awards Program on Saturday December 17th.  The event was also attended by local and state leaders, our ladies auxiliary and mutual aid companies.  During the awards portion of the program the company honored several individuals for dedicated service during 2017.  The Steven Turner Memorial Award for Junior Firefighter of the Year was awarded to Dakota Correll.  This was the second year that Dakota was awarded this award.  Dakota excelled as a junior member again this year.  The Robert E. Berghorn Memorial Award for Firefighter of the Year was awarded to Craig Snyder.  Craig set himself apart from the other members and was always one of the first people to volunteer when things needed to be done around the firehouse.  The William R.…

The Clayton Fire Company not only has the William R. "Ace" Carrow Memorial Hall for your large events but it also has a smaller room for smaller gatherings. The smaller room which is normally used for training and meetings can also be transformer into your special event. The room can seat up to 60 people in a classroom setting but when transformed into banquet tables can hold up to 50 people comfortably. The room is equipped with AV equipment and is also equipped with a small kitchenette with sink, refrigerator freezer and microwave oven. The room is also equipped with 2 bathrooms. During the 2016 DVFA Fireman's Conference Parade on Saturday September 17th Junior Miss Fire Prevention Kaylee Davis was awarded Best Appearing Junior Fire Prevention Queen. Kaylee competed against numerous other Junior Fire Prevention Queens that also attended this years parade. Kaylee is the Daughter of Deputy Chief Robert Davis and his wife Davey Ann. DOT SAPPINGTON EARNS AUXILIARY LIFE MEMBERSHIP STATUS

Dot Sappington has reached the very worthy level of Life Member of the Clayton Fire Company Auxiliary. She joined our Auxiliary on April 6, 1999 and has been a member in good standing throughout the years. She works in complete harmony with her fellow auxiliary members and has always been willing to complete any task put before her in our organization. Dot was recognized in June 2012 and again in May 2015 at our monthly meeting for her hard work shown to this organization. She has served as Chairperson for our Investigating Committee from 2012 – 2015. Becoming a Life Member is one of the highest honors reached by active Auxiliary members. AUXILIARY WELCOMES NEW MEMBER

During the December Auxiliary meeting, President Georgia Davis announced that Karen Porterfield has fulfilled her required obligations as stated in the Auxiliary By-Laws and she was eligible to be voted into the Clayton Fire Company Auxiliary as a regular full time member. Karen made a total of 14 out of the 22 functions and a total of 100 points for the year. This was an outstanding effort on her part and a job well done. She was unanimously voted into the Auxiliary and she was presented with her silver membership pin. The members of the Auxiliary are very proud to welcome Karen to our organization!

AUXILIARY MOURNS PASSING OF LIFE MEMBER RUTHLEEN W. OGDEN

Ruthleen W. Ogden, of Clayton, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Thursday November 26, 2015. She was 85. She was born August 24, 1930 in Berlin, MD, the daughter of the late John W. and Bertha A. West. She retired after many years of service as a CNA at the Delaware Hospital for the Chronically Ill, Smyrna. She had also been a caregiver to many in the Smyrna-Clayton communities for many years. Mrs. Ogden was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Clayton Fire Company, and enjoyed going to the beach. The most important thing in her life was her grandchildren and her family. She was preceded in death by her husband of 44 years, William T. Ogden; nine brothers; and one sister. She…

During the Clayton Auxiliary monthly meeting on October 12, 2015, Kelly Doremus and Gene Woolwine were voted in as regular members to the organization. Both have met all the requirements for their probation time of one year with the Clayton Auxiliary. They have made the effort to support and help with many functions for this period of time. Both attend the monthly meetings and are always willing to lend a helping hand when the Auxiliary is organizing and working together to host an event or fundraiser.
