Each year the Clayton Fire Company presents a $1,000 scholarship to a firefighter or the child of a Clayton Fire Company member. This year’s winner is Morgan Burnett, the daughter of Clayton Firefighter Lt. Jonathan Burnett. Morgan a senior at Smyrna High has been accepted into the nursing program at Del Tech Terry Campus. The scholarship was named in honor of Linda Lightcap who died suddenly several years ago. Linda was a member of the Clayton Ladies Aux, her husband Robert is a past president of the company and her son Robert J. Lightcap is a past chief of the fire company.
The members of the Clayton Fire Company wish to offer our condolences to the family of the slain Delaware State Police Trooper killed today while handling a complaint at a WAWA located on Rt. 40 in New Castle County. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and to our brothers and sisters at the Delaware State Police. RIP brother, gone but NEVER forgotten.
The company is welcoming its newest little member to the Clayton Fire Company family with the birth of Easton Thomas Lucas. Easton is the 1st son of Firefighter Jake Lucas and his girlfriend Samantha Cahall. Easton was born on Wednesday April 12 at 1:10pm and weighted in a 9 pounds 6 ounces and was 21 and 3/4″ inches long. Easton is also the grandson of Life Member Michael Lucas. The officers and members of the company would like to welcome Easton to the family and congratulate Jake and Samantha.
Saturday March 11 the company was able to take part on sending off and welcoming home the eventual State of Delaware Boys Basketball State Champions. The basketball team lead by Coach Andrew Mears soared over Caravel Academy by a score of 61-53 at The Bob on the campus of the Universality of Delaware in Newark. It was the first state championship in basketball in the history of Smyrna High School and joins the football team which won their state championship back in December. Like the football team the basketball team was lead out of town and back into town by the Smyrna and Clayton Fire Companies and Smyrna and Clayton Police Departments along with loads of families and friends. Once again the company will be taking part in the annual I Love Smyrna School District Day to be held tomorrow Saturday February 25th from 8am until 4pm at the Smyrna High School 500 Duck Creek Parkway. Our booth is already set up and ready to visit with members of the public. This is a great opportunity for us to get out and meet the public who supports us, answer questions and show them some of the things we offer. We hope that you take a few minutes out of your day to stop by our booth and say hi.
The Officers and Members of the Clayton Fire Company are wishing a speedy recovery to Citizens Hose Company President Brooks Keen. President Keen was involved in a serious automobile accident on Friday in the Townsend area and was airlifted to CER. President Keen was admitted to CER and is undergoing treatment for his injuries. We ask that everyone please keep President Keen in your thoughts and prayers while he recoveries and we look forward to seeing him around the station and at scenes in the future.
Once again this year Santa and Mrs. Claus made their annual trip around the streets of Clayton. Accompanied by his Elfs' (the Firefighters) they wished everyone a Merry Christmas and handed out candy to the children. Santa began his trip Christmas Eve at 5:30 and was done and ready to made his trip to the rest of the kids in the world by 9:30pm. The company had 30 members take part in this years event. The company held its annual Appreciation banquet and Awards Program on Saturday December 17th. The event was also attended by local and state leaders, our ladies auxiliary and mutual aid companies. During the awards portion of the program the company honored several individuals for dedicated service during 2017. The Steven Turner Memorial Award for Junior Firefighter of the Year was awarded to Dakota Correll. This was the second year that Dakota was awarded this award. Dakota excelled as a junior member again this year. The Robert E. Berghorn Memorial Award for Firefighter of the Year was awarded to Craig Snyder. Craig set himself apart from the other members and was always one of the first people to volunteer when things needed to be done around the firehouse. The William R.…
